Bio

I'm Thomas Mayfield, a 19 year-old student at Oberlin College in Ohio. My major is as of yet undecided, though I'm beginning to lean towards Computer Science.

Since high school, I've been something of a fitness nut. I ran cross-country and track for three years, clocking in decent times in distance events. During that time, I would easily put in fifty or sixty miles a week during the peak of summer training. My knees started giving me trouble when I got to college, so I took off a great deal of time for them to heal. During that time, I started getting into martial arts instead. I study Aikido at the Oberlin dojo and Jeet Kune Do under my friend Matt. I've recently begun running again, but as a part of a general fitness program with weight lifting, biking and other forms of cross-training.

In keeping with my active liftstyle, I neither drink nor smoke. In fact, I have a fairly violent aversion to both. I do try not to judge others for their choices, however.

I'm a major geek. I built my own computer, although it's aging a bit now. It's a 1.4Ghz Thunderbird on an Abit KG7-RAID, GeForce3, and 256MB of Crucial PC2100. Used to be 512MB, but a stick went bad on me and I haven't been able to replace it yet. In any case, I enjoy fiddling with all kind of computers. I'm going to a Residential Computer Coordinator at Oberlin next semester, providing tech support for North Campus. I'm also slowing gaining proficiency in Linux/UNIX as a result of programming courses.
